COSTA BRAVA

The Costa Brava’s most beautiful scenic road connects Sant Feliu de Guixols and Tossa de Mar. It is over 23km – 14,3 miles –long, curvaceous and of a wild beauty. The small city Sant Feliu de Guixols in the center of the Costa Brava is vibrant with a Southern atmosphere. Early in the morning, old fisher men have already gathered on the stone benches around the havens, telling stories that are commented by the cries of the gulls. Said wealth can be traced back to 19th and 20th century, as proven by some spectacular buildings dating back to that time.

The name Costa Brava - “wild coast” - was created in 1908 by the writer Ferrán Agullo, when he admired the cliffy rocks on the coast of Sant Feliu de Guíxols. The view onto the sea is breathtaking and unique – the sea, the bizarre rocks, green pines and gnarled cork oaks. The sea sparkles in green and blue behind the jagged cliffs.

The landscape is stunning and the real attraction of the route; all along the road there are small picturesque bays, surrounded by rocks.

Now and again, small streets and paths lead to the water. In some bays there are tiny bars, skinny-dipping is allowed in others. Then we go on to Tossa de Mar. We pause right above Tossa de Mar for another scenic view. We see the Old Town and its towers. “What’s best about Tossa,” said Josep Pla “that’s the air, the light, its profile, its colours and its life.” Marc Chagall called the city a “blue paradise”.
