Peralada, 28th of July, 10pm: Just before the beginning of the perfor- mance of the German star tenor Jonas Kaufmann, it was still almost 30 degrees at night on the castle grounds of Peralada. A cava on ice helps against the heat and to get in the right mood for the experience «Jonas Kaufmann». The auditorium in Peralada is sold out, because tonight is the only performance of Jonas Kaufmann this year in Spain. The tenor, celebrated like a pop star at the present time, has an overly full international touring schedule: Milan, Lucerne, Salzburg, Zurich, Hamburg, Berlin, Vienna, Paris, New York, ... and Peralada tonight! The celebrities of Catalonia in the audience at the castle grounds: Pau Gasol; the president of Abertis, Salvador Alemany, and the tenor Plácido Domingo, who will perform at the festival on Sunday night with the opera ‘Thaïs’.
The Orchestra of Teatro Real is conducted by the German conductor Jochen Rieder this evening.
Kaufmann captivats his audience right from the rst note. He begins with Camille Saint-Saëns and «Bacchanale» from the opera «Sam- son et Dalila».

Le public l’adore. Le ténor allemand éveille des passions partout où il va et ses performances sont toujours le synonyme d’un grand événe- ment musical et social. Le succès et l’adulation constante de la part du public et de la critique du monde entier, n’impressionnent pas Jonas Kaufmann qui sort toujours sur scène en faisant preuve d’une énorme simplicité et honnêteté. L’anti-divo revient cet été à Peralada aux côtés de son maître et ami Jochen Rieder qui dirigera, depuis le pupitre, l’orchestre résident du Théâtre Royal, dans une nuit d’arias et d’œuvres du grand répertoire.
Ses concerts sont de brillantes occasions pour apprécier ses nombreux registres et pouvoir savourer sa voix ample, sa riche musicalité et sa grande technique, associée à des dons d’interprétation impression- nants et à une énorme qualité vocale.
Arrivé à une pleine maturité vocale et personnelle, il a parcouru comme bien peu d’autres le répertoire allemand et français, en passant par l’italien, outre interpréter d’une manière sublime des héros tragiques
