Golf galt lange lange Zeit als elitär. Heute ist der Golfsport auf dem bes- ten Weg zum Breitensport. Bei den Olympischen Sommerspielen 1900 und 1904 war Golf bereits schon mal im Programm. Danach folgte eine Pause von 112 Jahren. Erst bei den Sommerspielen in Rio de Janeiro 2016 wurde Golf wieder zur olympischen Disziplin ernannt. Geplant ist das auch für die Sommerspiele 2020 in Tokio und 2024 in Paris.
