Von der gotischen Kathedrale „La Catedral de la Santa Creu i Santa Eulàlia“, in deren Kreuzgang Gänse die Besucher begeistern, über den „Palau de la Generalitat“, den Sitz der katalanischen Regierung, bis hin zur Seufzerbrücke sehen wir während unserem Rundgang alle wichtigen gotischen Bauten Barcelonas. Gleich- zeitig nähern wir uns immer mehr dem Meer und machen am Nachmittag, zur spanischen Mittagszeit, in der angenehm warmen Frühlingssonne erst einmal eine Pause bei leckerer Paella und einem kühlen Bier.
Dann machen wir uns auf den Weg zum Hausberg Barcelonas. Der 173 Meter hohe Montjuïc war schon für so manches Event Veranstaltungsort und selbst wenn gerade nichts geboten ist, zieht er trotzdem seit jeher Touristen sowie Einheimische magisch an. Ob nun Überbleibsel der Welt- ausstellung von 1929, wie etwa der von Mies van der Rohe konstruierte deutsche Pavillon, die Font Màgica (magischer Brunnen), die Parkanlage rund um den Berg herum oder das beeindruckende Schloss am höchsten Punkt des Montjuïc, es gibt viel zu sehen. At the same time, we get closer to the sea and make a break in the afternoon, at Spanish lunchtime, in the warm spring sun while having a tasty paella and a cold beer.
After we make our way towards the local mountain, called Montjuïc, which has a height of 173 meters. The Montjuïc serves as a perfect event location, but also without anything planned, attracts as many tour- ists as locals. From the castle, you have a beautiful view over the whole city and the Olympic site behind (In 1992, the Summer Olympics took place in Barcelona) with its huge TV mast provides enough space for a few quiet minutes, before we go back to the hustle and bustle. Soon afterwards, we sit at the crowded stairs in front of the Font Màgica, waiting impatiently for the light show to begin. At 7 pm, water fountains will be shooting up into the air, accompanied by music and colourful lights.
