Le machaon, le plus grand pa-
pillon en Europe, s’envole un
peu difficilement d’une petite fleur et
en repart presque zigzaguant. Je le suis
discrètement. Je devrais être capable
d’attraper un si piètre insecte volant.
Tout doucement je pose un pied de-
vant l’autre. Je fais très attention de ne
pas me faire repérer par mon ombre.
Je déclenche. Ça y est, je l’ai ! Il serait
plus facile d’observer et de photogra-
phier ce papillon quelque part lorsqu’ils
se retrouvent à plusieurs, par exemple
en haut d’un monticule. En effet, les
mâles se rassemblent pour attendre
les femelles de la même espèce. Cer-
tains papillons tropicaux procèdent
de la même manière. Avec un peu de
chance, vous en verrez un jour...
Je continue ma promenade. À cette
époque du printemps, il y a des fleurs
autour des champs, sous les oliviers,
aux pieds des montagnes - partout.
C’est une bonne raison pour bon
nombre de papillons de faire un sé-
jour dans notre région. Et comble de
bonheur : il n’est pas nécessaire de
se lever à l’aube pour les voir - tour
au contraire. Les insectes, et surtout les
papillons, ont besoin de se réchauf-
fer d’abord, car ce sont des animaux

A Common Blue is fluttering near the

only about two to three centimetres.
Once it sits down and opens its wings
– which it doesn’t do as often as I
wished – we can rejoice in the fabu-
lous colours of its shiny dress.
Another butterfly is rather generous in
showing his wing colours: the Wall
Brown. He likes to rest on Scabiosas or
other blooming flowers and, of course,
on walls. And it almost always rests
with outstretched wings. But we must
not frighten him with casting our sha-
dow on it because then it will quickly
fly away.
