2011 marks the seven-tieth anniversary of their encounter — the painter and the photographer met for the frst time in 1941 in the United States —we felt this was the right time to organi-ze the exhibition Dalí by Halsman in Púbol Castle.

Dalí by Halsman presents a selec-tion of eighty-eight photographs of Salvador Dalí taken by Philippe Halsman (plus a gouache by Dalí painted on a photograph), in all of which Dalí’s involvement was both physical and conceptual. The pictures shown in this exhibi-tion were kept by Dalí throughout his life. They are reminiscences of his collaboration over thirty-seven years, from 1941 to 1978, with another alchemist of the creative process.

En cette année 2011, alors que l’on fête les soixante-dix ans de leur rencontre – le peintre et le photographe se sont connus en 1941 aux États-Unis –, nous avons pensé que le moment était venu d’organiser l’exposition Dali by Halsman au Château de Púbol.

L’exposition présente une gouache de Dalí sur photographie et quatre-vingt huit photos de Salvador Dalí par Philippe Halsman, sélection-nées avec la participation phy-sique et conceptuelle du peintre. Toute sa vie durant, Dalí a conser-vé les images présentées dans cette exposition, réminiscences d’une collaboration longue de trente-sept ans (1941-1978) avec un autre alchimiste du processus de création.

Este 2011, cuando se cump-len setenta años desde que Halsman y Dalí se conocieron - el pintor y el fotógrafo se encuentran por vez primera en 1941, en los Es-tados Unidos -, nos ha parecido el momento idóneo para organizar la muestra Dalí by Halsman en nuestro Castillo de Púbol.

La muestra presenta una selección de ochenta y ocho fotografías (y

también un gouache de Dalí sobre fotografía) que Philippe Halsman le hizo a Salvador Dalí, contando en todo momento con su participación física y conceptual.

Las imágenes en cuestión, que Dalí había conservado a lo largo de toda su vida, son reminiscencia de una co-laboración de treinta y siete años - de 1941 a 1978 - con otro alquimista del proceso creativo.
