Un dimanche, il y a de cela quelque temps, nous avons été réveillé par un drôle de bruit. Un regard par la fenêtre a permis de l’identifier. Une mon- tgolfière planait au-dessus de notre maison. Le pilote était en train de faire fonctionner le brûleur pour pouvoir atterrir sur un champ à côté du village. C’est à ce moment-là qu’il nous est venu l’idée de tenter un jour l’expérience d’un tel vol: En-dessous de nous, tout devient de plus en plus petit. L’horizon s’élargit et la mer brille. Les forêts sont baignées par la brume. Rapidement nous planons à plus de 1.000 mètres d’altitude. C’est tout en silence que nous nous déplaçons. Comme il se doit, nous fêtons ce moment.
Le European Balloon Festival est une concentration internationale de mon- tgolfières qui s’est tenue pour la première fois en 1997 à Igualada. Depuis lors, il s’est imposé comme un concours et un festival de référence au niveau européen.

The European Balloon Festival is an international meeting of hot air bal- loons held for the first time in 1997 in Igualada. Since then it has become a competition and a benchmark in Europe.
The festival is held in the first fortnight of July in Igualada and over four days (from Thursday to Sunday) gathers more than fifty hot air balloons with their teams from around the world, and over 25,000 visitors.
The European Balloon Festival is a concentration, a competition and a bal- loon festival, that brings togheter the fun aspect of the flight, the beauty of the sport and the competition. During the four days of the festival, visitors can enjoy the show to see more than 50 balloons fly, participate in the programmed activities or fly in a balloon while the participating teams perform different exhibition and competition tests.
The flights take place in the early morning and late in the afternoon be- cause that’s when weather conditions are best for hot air balloons.
