Ramon Llull wants to bring humans closer to his God. Not with weapons, like a lot of crusaders in his time, but with words. In times of religious wars and crusades he relies on fundamental ethical values.
In the book „Book of the Gentile and the Three Wise Men“, written in 1275, Llull gives a say to a Christian, a Jew and a Muslim.
The project of his life: conversion of non-Christians by preaching and debate. He tries to connect strangers and friends by getting to know each other.
However, Ramon Llull unfortunately could not convince neither Muslims nor Christians. Did he try the impossible? Because of the increasing ow of refugees it is essential today to deal with other cultures without proselytizing. Like every year it is possible to admire medieval crafts during the Medie- val Festival in Casteló d’Empùries. Tradespeople offer special goods. Of course there’s also catered food and drinks. Market days are celebrations! Therefore there is also a huge offer of entertainment: minstrels, jugglers and acting on the streets, alleys and squares provide good mood during all days and nights. The jousting promises as always spectacular martial arts. The medieval market will take place on Saturday, the 10th and Sunday, the 11th of September on the square in front of the Basilica.
Terra de Trobadors starts on Friday, the 9th of September with a medieval banquet. At 22.00 h there will be a festively decorated table in the cour- tyard of the Palau dels Comtes.
