of the skies. A farm house with a fantastic view now lies deserted and is only used as a stable. A shame – this would be the perfect place for a breakfast with a view. The road keeps rising; we carry on. In the small town of Vallfogona de Ripolles, a road sign hints at there being restaurants, and, more importantly, the possibility of coffee! Lured into the town by this promising prospect we pull into a parking space right in front of the small but neat Can Polla restaurant. Before sitting down, however, we decide to take a short walk to the market place.
A medieval Castle, owned privately and towering over the village, has been rst restored in 1335, and remained the same ever since, at least on the outside. The rectangular castle with its high tower is called La Sala and unfortunately, visitors are not welcome. We learn all of this from an older gentleman on a bike. He has seen us as we took pictures and would like to show us around his village. He has launched a photo competition which invites everyone to send in their most beautiful pictures of Vallfogona de Ripolles. Upon hearing that we are actually from a magazine, he apolo-

nous saluent d’un “meuh“ étonné ... ! Une touffe de chardon s’érige vers le ciel d’un bleu éclatant, telle une sculpture verte et mauve. À côté de la route, la ferme abandonnée ne sert plus que d’étable. La vue est extraordinaire d’ici. Ce serait l’endroit idéal pour prendre le petit-déjeuner, tout en admirant le panorama. Nous poursuivons la route qui monte de plus en plus haut. Dans le petit village de Vallfogona de Ripollès, un panneau signale plusieurs restaurants – nous dégusterons peut être là notre café tant désiré. Nous continuons direction le village et nous nous garons devant le petit restaurant Can Polla. Avant de nous installer sous un parasol, nous partons jeter un coup d’oeil sur la place du village. Au-dessus de celui-ci, se trouve un impressionnant bâtiment carré tout en pierre de roche. En y regardant de plus près, cela s’avère être un castel médiéval, mais malheu- reusement interdit d’accès, car c’est une propriété privée. Le château-fort La Sala – rectangulaire et possédant une tour de garde de 7 étages - a gardé son aspect extérieur de l’année 1335, date à laquelle il a été rénové pour la première fois.
