Sur la Costa Brava, les cyprès marquent le paysage en nombreux endroits. Qu'ils soient jeunes ou vieux, avec des cimes d'arbres correctement tail- lées ou balayées par le vent - vous les voyez partout et toujours. Le cyprès est bien approprié aux rues et aux avenues du paysage méditerranéen, se voit aussi comme arbre d'ornement dans les parcs et jardins, ou même devant les églises et les places des villages. Mais surtout, le cyprès se dresse devant les maisons et les restaurants des habitants. Mais a-t-il un certain symbolisme en Catalogne, cet arbre élégant? On the Costa Brava cypress trees mark the landscape in many places. Whether young or old, with carefully pruned or windswept treetops - you can see them all the time and everywhere. As an avenue tree in the Medi- terranean landscape, as ornamental trees in parks and gardens, or even in front of churches and village squares. Above all, the cypress stands in front of the houses and restaurants of the locals. But what is it about this elegant tree? Does it have a certain symbolism in Catalonia? The cypress in the form of column is so present here that it certainly has a long history... Already in ancient times the wood of the local cypress was appreciated for its longevity. It was used to build ships, temple doors, statues of gods and sarcophagi. The Romans also planted the cypress as a windscreen.
