Ab 1956 entstanden an der katalanischen Küste viele Initiativen zum Bau neuer Feriensiedlungen. Ende 1964 legte die Firma Eurobrava S.A. der Gemeinde Castelló d’Empúries einen Teilraumordnungsplan vor. Der eingereichte Plan sah vor, die Gegend zwischen dem Fluß Muga, Les Salins und der Straße von Figueres nach Roses zu bebauen. Arbeitstitel des Projekts: „Eurobrava de la Muga“. Daraus entstand dann der Name Ampuriabrava, das heute katalanisch Empuriabrava heißt. Empuriabrava ist eine auf dem Reißbrett geplante und auf freiem Feld gebaute Residenz, die sich im Laufe der Zeit zu einer beliebten Touristenstadt entwickelt hat.

In 1956, there were initiatives to build new summer cottages along the Catalan coast line. Near the end of 1964, a company known as Euro- brava S.A. submitted a plan to the commune Castelló d’ Empúries. Ac- cording to this plan, they meant to build in the region between the river Muga, Les Salins and the road leading from Figueres to Roses. Their project title: Eurobrava de la Muga. Soon, people began to call this project Ampurabrava, and today it is known as Empuriabrava in Catalan.
